Film Theory [ME006]

This course is aimed at anyone who is interested in – or who enjoys, film. It will seek to provide an insight into several different areas of film theory, including the analysis of narrative and the development of different cinematic conventions through the different ages of cinema. The course will also provide a logical chronology of film development as a medium, from early silent cinema into the digital age of the 21st century.

Different film theories will be discussed in class, with important scenes being analysed and deconstructed in order to provide students with a greater understanding and appreciation, of film as a medium.Course DescriptionEnlighten students on the methods used to; deconstruct a film; understand different cinematic techniques/ conventions and their implications within a film.Provide detailed profiles of important directors, showing how their work and influence has shaped the development of cinema.In depth analysis of several divergent genres from across the spectrum of world cinema.Insights into the evolution of how key themes have been dealt with within cinema.
