**Early Bird Discount of €50 if you pay in full by January 27th**

Participants will develop story ideas and learn practical skills. No prior experience is necessary. Participants should come to the course with an idea that is achievable for a short documentary. This course will give the participants a grounding in the basics of documentary making. Participants will work as a group to make a short documentary and will be given a copy of their work on DVD. A public screening of the films will be held in Galway City.

The tutor is documentary maker Paddy O'Connor, who has made numerous documentaries including the award winning documentary The Gamble, which was part of the RTÉ True Lives series. Other RTÉ screened documentaries, which Paddy made, include The Hill (stemmed from an ID project) and Jolly Fine Boating Weather. Paddy continues to work in the community as a filmmaker.

Course Duration: Four & half weekends

Course Dates: 20th February to 20th March

Course Cost: € 450 unwaged/€ 500 waged (These fees include membership to the Centre for the year)

**There is a 10% discount if you have done a course with us in the last year. Members, who have done a course with us in the last year, can avail of the early bird discount or the 10% discount, but not both.

Further volunteer information sessions have been announced by organisers of the upcoming Special Olympics Ireland Games, which will take place in Limerick this June.

Special Olympics Ireland needs to recruit 3,500 volunteers to help run the games which take place in Limerick from the 9th – 13th June.

The dates for the information events are as follows.

-Monday, February 1st – 7pm, The Strand Hotel, Limerick.

-Saturday, February 6th – 10.30am – Jean Monnet theatre, University of Limerick.

-Saturday, February 13th – 10.30am The Strand Hotel, Limerick.

-Monday, February 15th – 7pm, The Strand Hotel, Limerick.

-Wednesday, February 17th – 7pm, Castletroy Park Hotel, Limerick.

-Saturday, February 20th – 10.30am & 1pm, Jean Monnet theatre, University of Limerick.

All are welcome to attend.

The Altered Images Student Post Production Awards 2010, this is a competition and award ceremony to reward exceptional work in post production, film and television making from students at BTEC, Undergraduate and Postgraduate level.

Why Enter?

Finalists will be invited to the final award ceremony at Broadcast Video Expo on February 18th, Winners and runners up will take away prizes worth over £1000, kindly donated from our sponsors.

Finalists work will be judged and viewed by Industry experts and post production companies from across the UK. This will be a great one-off opportunity for the brightest students to network and display their talent.

This is a competition which is industry led and takes students right to the heart of the industry. If you become a finalist or winner it will look fantastic on your CV.

What work should I enter?

Students can enter fiction or non-fiction video clips of any duration, everything from documentary to comedy will be accepted. Your work must have been completed in the 08/09 or 09/10 academic year to qualify.

How do I enter?

Download the entry form at www.alteredimagesltd.com and post your material on DVD or another format to the given address, alternatively you can upload your video to YouTube. Finalists will be asked to post full quality versions to be shown at the ceremony.

How much does it cost?

There is no entry fee to enter the awards, you will have some costs from posting entries to Altered Images, if you make the finals then you will have to cover your own travel costs to Broadcast Video Expo, Earls Court Exhibition Centre 2, London. Entry to the exhibition is free if you register beforehand at www.broadcastvideoexpo.co.uk
